DIS:CONTR:OVER:SIAL WINTER aka DJ SIXA (Extension Electronic Music) London/UK

Christopher Winter, born in may 1980 in Bydgoszcz/north west Poland. A sinewave surfer, noise musician, sound sculptor,dj.
Known by multiple aliases and alter egos - Sigma, Sixa, Discontroversial Winter, The Night Rider.

Growing up in communist Poland his journey through music begins in the late 80s, a time when music was exchanged between friends in the form of mix tapes and access to the world of MTV was exclusive for those with satellite TV. From his early years he loved diversity, music from the Sex Pistols via Leonard Cohen, Depeche Mode, Chopin to Penderecki offered inspiration. First forays into creating his own sound came in 1993 when Sixa organized a group of friends to set-up a punk core band : Suchy Chleb Dla Konia. He played drums and the first noise was made. This young band recorded their own crude tapes and hit the charts of the underground local teen-scene. Soon a new direction was to be taken with the discovery of new sound attention switched to acid partys in his home city.

Sixa, a full time music lover found a new medium through which to play with music. From the foundations of an ever growing record collection Sixa began to experiment further and began to master the art of mixing. Strong influence came from NY school: John Cage, Lary Levan, UK dj John Peel as well as all the masters from Detroit. His debut as a dj took place in GonG in Bydgoszcz (1997 ) were he became a resident. In early 1998 with help of like minded and forward looking friends he created an impresario Yodla who organised cutting edge music&art events. Between 1998 and 2000 Sixa: The Night Rider traveled and spinned record all over the places in the country (prestiges clubs, top roof buildings, beaches, boat partys, city toilets, galleries, airports). His speedy proficiency on the turntables wowed audiences earning him respect and notoriety within the industry as a whole. Sixa became well known for spicy mixing, original record selection and a somewhat freaky image. In this period while resident in Post Dali (Poznan) he recorded music and mixes for various fashion shows. In the middle of 2000 he took over the managment of Zero One in Bydgoszcz where he conglomerated the most influential polish artists & dj's of electronic music. Through 1998/2002 he built there a structure of underground music scene admired by many.

In spring 2002 looking for some new vibes and inspiration Sixa took the decision to make a break for London. Within just three months he confirms that this was the right decision and plays in top London venue Turnmils which in turn leads to an ongoing residency in Fuid. While resident at Fluid he works and studies recording engineering. 2003/2006 become more sound productive for Sixa. In 2003 Sixa recorded in Global Dance Recordings in Notting Hill studios 'Fluid in Music' a compilation of lounge&dance music(db cd/dj mix).Throughout time in London, demand in Poland requires Sixa to fly back in order to DJ and perform at increasingly prestigious events at ' Dziedziniec Zamkowy ' in Poznan and ' Radison' hotel in Szczecin. A long term affair with electronic music creates a sountrack 'Lo B' (2004) for short movie, directed&produced by Jamina Zaharieva. In summer 2005 Sixa aka Discontroversial Winter with Mr.Synthasy play at Sono (Bydgoszcz/Poland) their first ever life performance. An experimental discore set an improvisation without using a computer, which inspires the large crowd and making a mark in Poland like never before. 2004/2006 sees Sixa dj regulary at Exit in bohemian Bricklane in London, London Fashion Week & various private events. A geometric shape of Sixas life in the beginning of 2006 took him back to school again. He studies: sonic arts at MWC and music broadcasting at University of London Arts ,where he developes presenting skills as well as music production for media. Currently Sixa together with Feelaz organise 'Polish The Dancefloor' a show case of eastern european musicians & djs held in London at Exit.

What punctuates Sixa's skills as a DJ is his capacity to not only incorporate diverse genres and styles, but to transcend them by infusing his music with pure emotion. He strongly believes that musical categories - intelligent techno, intelligent dance music, electronica, electronic listening music, artificial intelligence, ambient techno or any other categories are sensless and divisive, more representative of pretentionous aspirations and critics than motivations of musicians. Sixa is know for truly a unique Dj style. This is because he tries his best to get the cream of every record and only plays the part he feels is the best part of each tune.He believes that Dj's need to listen to the music carefully, and be a medium for the record consumer. For some strange reason, he does not consider himself a DJ. His talent is matched only by his passion which has seen him become one of the most charismatic polish presenters of avant-garde music.
